As summer draws towards its close, Bytom's Water Tower will become a place to pause, listen and let the evening unfold slowly.
Not every concert asks its audience to stand, sing along or follow the rhythm. Some invite people to do almost the opposite: settle down, close their eyes and allow the music to become part of the surroundings.
That is the idea behind "Drzemka" (Wave of Music), an ambient concert taking place at Bytom's Water Tower on Sunday, 30 August 2026. The event forms part of "Dobrze Mi Tu. Dni Kultury Wrażliwej", a ten-day programme organised across the city by Bytomskie Centrum Kultury, running from 21 to 30 August.
The wider festival brings together art, creative activity and conscious rest, using the idea of cultural "waves" to move between different parts of Bytom and different ways of experiencing culture. The programme includes music, workshops, exhibitions, food, movement and activities connected with wellbeing.
"Drzemka" takes that idea into particularly quiet territory.
A concert shaped by sound, space and light
The evening's music will be created live by Szymon Bryzek, using field recordings and subtle synthesiser layers. Rather than building the performance around a conventional song structure, the soundscape is intended to develop gradually, giving the audience space to listen without needing to follow a fixed musical narrative.
He will be joined by Maksymilian Zięba, whose improvised saxophone melodies will add a live instrumental element to the electronic sounds.
The visual dimension comes from Aura Soundscapes, with Paulina Tymczyszyn and Wojciech Dziurowicz creating live, audio-reactive light displays. The visuals will respond to the music as it unfolds, making the experience a meeting point between sound and light rather than simply a concert accompanied by decoration.
The choice of venue is equally important. Held outdoors at Bytom's Water Tower on ul. Oświęcimska, the performance places this slow-moving combination of music and light within one of the city's distinctive architectural spaces.
It also reflects the broader approach of "Dobrze Mi Tu". The festival deliberately moves cultural activity beyond a single conventional venue, using different spaces around Bytom to encourage new ways of experiencing the city. The organisers describe the project as an invitation to slow down, discover new experiences and spend time close to creativity and the senses.
An evening designed without hurry
The format of "Drzemka" is deliberately informal. Rather than treating the audience as spectators who need to remain upright and attentive in a traditional concert setting, the event encourages people to sit or lie down comfortably and simply absorb the experience.
That approach makes the surrounding environment part of the performance. The Water Tower, evening air, ambient sound and changing light are brought together as elements of the same experience.
It is also a reminder that live music does not always need to demand attention. Ambient music can work through gradual changes, texture and atmosphere, allowing listeners to decide how closely they want to engage with it.
For Bytom, this makes "Drzemka" a fitting part of a festival built around the idea of sensitive culture. Across ten days, "Dobrze Mi Tu" has been exploring different ways in which culture can engage the senses, encourage creativity or simply provide an opportunity to slow down.
The final weekend brings that idea to a particularly simple conclusion. There is no need to hurry through a programme or move between activities. At the Water Tower, the invitation is simply to settle in, listen and watch as the music and light change around you.
In a city where culture often means movement, conversation and activity, "Drzemka" offers a different proposition: that sometimes the most meaningful cultural experience can begin when everything slows down.
